Yogiraj recalls that prior to his guru's passing, he was practicing for 14 hours a day. After his guru's death in January 1987, he became even more inspired and began practicing for 14 to 16 hours daily. Despite this intense dedication, he felt that there were still missing elements to his practices. This feeling troubled him as he had no one to turn to for guidance. Then, an opportunity to visit Benares arose. On April 1st, 1988, he went to the city and visited the dean of the Benares Hindu University (BHU) to put in a good word for a friend who was having some difficulties in his work as a yoga instructor there. The following day, many people from Mudapar came to see Yogiraj, who was staying at Kashi Mumukshu Bhawan, a trusted disciple of his guru. After the visitors left, Yogiraj resumed his practice and was suddenly interrupted by a knock at the door. A man with half-shirt and long hair entered, who Yogiraj couldn't immediately recognize. The man introduced himself as Babaji, the one Yogiraj knew by name.
